For ages: 3 – 8 Years

As thunder and lightning approach, a family gathers inside to play, sing, eat, and snuggle together until the weather clears. This sweet story captures both the excitement of a thunderstorm and the reassurance needed for children. The lively, rhythmic text mimics the storm sounds while the bold, playful art shows this special family time.

“Brief, rhyming, onomatopoeic verse tells the story of three small children who observe a thunderstorm from the second story of their country home. Digitally rendered cartoon illustrations depict characters smartly attired in fashionable, casual clothing. Very young children will enjoy the wordplay!” ~ School Library Journal

“At the center of Storm Song is a human family—the first page shows three sibling heads looking out a window as the leaves whirl and the sky darkens in their backyard. The storm gets louder and scarier, but when the lights go out, Mom sings a reassuring song and everyone snuggles on the sofa until the clouds clear and all is quiet again. This one makes a great read aloud—with all of the satisfying storm noises:  ‘Boom. Boom. Bang! Rumble, rap, ROAR!’” ~ Parent’s Express

“Nancy visited two schools and met with students from first through sixth grades. She tailored her presentation for the different grade levels, discussing her life, how she does her writing, and the elements of a great story, intertwining the three into a seamless and entertaining hour. The students were completely engaged and enthusiastic. In the weeks since Nancy’s visit, teachers have commented that Nancy’s writing tips were right on target. I highly recommend Nancy Viau!” ~ Karen DeFrank, District Librarian, Glassboro, NJ

“There has been such a great response to the 6-week Creative Writing Club. Twenty-five kids come in excited and ready to go and don’t want to leave when the hour is up. Nancy does a wonderful job engaging them in the weekly topics and encouraging them to foster their creativity. I could not be happier with the results of this program. We’re going to keep the writing going by starting a club that meets monthly.”
